My article on the camping boom and its place in alternative culture, The Canvas Revolution: Britain Camps Out, appeared in The Independent newspaper on Saturday 11th June.
I argue that the growth in sales of camping equipment shows that people are adjusting their holidaying expectations to the new economic reality, and that the experience of camping suits times such as this, with one way of life discredited and another yet to take its place.
The article stems from my research into camping for my new book The Art of Camping, which is published in July by Hamish Hamilton.
